The John Lachman Society

Membership in the Society shall be by invitation and will consist of the following groups:

  • Physician group
  • Scientist group
  • Allied health professionals
  • Friends of John Lachman

It shall be the responsibility of the officers, board of directors, and membership to support the activities of the John Lachman Orthopedic Research Fund through the Society.

Proposed activities of the Society are as follows:

  1. The Society will assist the Fund in the development and support of an annual John Lachman Lectureship through either a national, state, or local orthopedic organization. A prescribed number of the lectures will deal with the ethical aspects of orthopaedic surgery.

  2. The Society will assist the Fund in the development and support, through a national orthopaedic organization, of an annual John Lachman Award for that surgeon elected to be most representative of the Lachman principles of integrity, quality care, and teaching.

  3. The Society will assist the Fund in the development and support of an ethics group to define ethical standards and parameters for the practice of orthopaedic surgery to counsel residents and young surgeons.

  4. The Society will assist the Fund in the development and support of a mentoring group to assist residents through their training and practice decisions.

  5. Lastly and most important, the Society will support the John Lachman Orthopaedic Research Fund in its emphasis on the research component of residency training.
